Our match of the weekend is BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION v LEEDS UNITED at the American Express Stadium on Saturday 1st November.

The clubs have met 51 times previously in all competitions with Albion winning 19, Leeds 18 and 14 draws.

Their first ever meeting was on the 24th September 1960, a League Division Two match, at the Goldstone Ground. This ended as a 2-1 win for Albion. There have not been any big results

for either team. The Seagull’s biggest win is 4-0, a Championship match, played at the Amex stadium in February 2016. United’s biggest win is 3-0, on two occasions. Firstly, at Elland Road i

a Division Two match in December 1989 and secondly, a League One match, played at Withdean Stadium in January 2009. With regards to biggest aggregate meetings, there have been

two. Both times the the results ended 3-3. In Leeds in September 2005 and in Brighton in September 2011.

The clubs have only met once in the FA Cup. That was in January 1989 at the Goldstone Ground. Leeds won 2-1.

Their last meeting was a Premier League match played at Elland Road on 11th March 2023, in front of a crowd of 36471. The first half saw Alex MacAllister open the scoring for the Seagulls

in the 33rd minute. Patrick Bamford pulled a goal back in the 40th minute, meaning the first half ending 1-1. The second half saw Solly March (with help from Jack Harrison) take the lead

back for Albion in the 61st minute, with Harrison atoning for his error by scoring the Whites equaliser in the 78th minute. Final result 2-2.

The match, this weekend, is important for both sides. Albion start the match in 13th place, with 12 points from 8 games. United start the match in 15th, with 11 points from 9 matches. A lot for

the managers Fabian Hurzeler and Daniel Farke to contemplate.

Among the players who have turned out for both clubs are Chris Wood, James Milner, Liam Bridcutt, Bradley Johnson, Billy Paynter, Georginio Rutter and Mark Beeney. .

In our first match for October, the game will be the 120th meeting between the two clubs. NEWCASTLE UNITED v NOTTINGHAM FOREST will be played at St. James’ Park this coming Sunday.

The current position for this fixture is 57 wins for United, 35 for Forest and 27 draws. They first met on 12th November 1898 in a Division One match with Forest at home and ended up winning

2-0. The Magpies biggest win is 5-0, on 11th May 1997, a Premier League match at St.James’ Park. Forest biggest win is 5-1, on two occasions. The first time was a Division One match on 8th

April 1905 and the second time was a Division Two match on 25th August 1934, both matches at the City Ground. The biggest aggregate matches are 7 goals, on three occasions. They were

in March 1974, September 2011 and February 2025.

As well as League matches, they have been paired together in the League Cup, in 1974, 2011, 2017, 2018 and 2024. In the FA Cup they have been drawn out of the hat together on nine

occasions, in 1908, 1921, 1931, 1955, 1967, 1974, 1985, 1991 and 1997. The strangest of these was the 1974 tie. The first match on 9th March played on the Tyne saw Forest go into a 1-3 lead, but the

Magpies fought back and managed to win 4-3. However, the over excited crowd had invaded the pitch and the result was cancelled. They then played the match again, at neutral

Goodison Park on the 18th, and this ended 0-0. Therefore, they had to meet yet again and so on the 21st both teams returned to Goodison which United won 1-0. The Magpies reached the

final but were beaten there by Liverpool, 3-0.

Back to the Premier League, their last meeting was on 23rd February 2025 at St. James’ Park. The crowd of 52,223, saw United in scintillating form first half. Although going down to a Hudson-

Odoi goal in the 6th minute, they stormed back with four goals over a 12 minute period. Miley in the 23rd, Murphy in the 25th and Isak in the 33rd and also 34th (penalty). Half time 4-1. The

second half saw Forest fighting to get back, and after making a good fist of it scored in the 63rd minute (Milenkovic) and 90th (Yates). Ended 4-3.

With regard to Sunday, both clubs are desperate for a win, as United are currently 15th and Forest 17th. Much to be considered by managers Eddie Howe and Ange Postecoglou.

Over the decades the following players have turned out for both teams:- Sammy Ameobi, Michael Chopra, Andy Cole, Anthony Elanga, Jermaine Jenas, Jamaal Lascelles, Stuart Pearce,

Matz Sels, Jonjo Shelvey and Chris Wood.

The match we are looking at this weekend is MANCHESTER UNITED V CHELSEA at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.

Their League meetings have all taken place in the top two Leagues. They have met 197 times previously with United winning 83, Chelsea 57 and 57 draws

Their first meeting was Christmas Day 1905, a Division Two match played at Old Trafford. The match ended as a 0-0 draw. United’s biggest win is 6-0 at home on Boxing Day 1960 and

Chelsea’s biggest win is 5-0 on 3rd October 1999, with the biggest aggregate game being eleven goals, a 5-6 win for the Red Devils at Stamford Bridge in October 1954.

As well as League matches the clubs have also met in a number of other competitions. They have had 17 meetings in the FA Cup. Three of these were Finals in 1994, 2007 and 2018. They have

also met five times in the League Cup. Domestically, they have also met four times in the Charity Shield. Turning to Europe the clubs have met in 2008 and 2011 in the UEFA Champions

League.

Their last meeting was on 16th May 2025 at Stamford Bridge. ( See photo below). The Friday night crowd of 39849 didn’t see any goals in the first half and took until the 71st minute for the only

goal of the match.

Defender, Marc Cucurella was the scorer for the Blues. Chelsea finished the season in 4th place, a Champions League position. Sadly, for United they ended in a disappointing 15th. Before thi

match, the clubs are sitting roughly as they ended last season.

Among the players who have played for both clubs are Mason Mount, Romelu Lukaku, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Radamel Falcao, Juan Sebastian Veron, and Mark Hughes

Our second match of the PL season is EVERTON v BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. This is the first Premier League match at the Toffees new home, so should be a

great atmosphere. The two clubs have met just twenty seven times previously, with the Toffees winning 12, the Seagulls 7 and 8 draws.

As with most history involving an original League club coming up against those joining the League 1920 and later, the first meeting is often a FA Cup fixture. This happened here. The two clubs

met for the first time on 1st February 1913, an FA Cup match, at the Goldstone Ground, Hove. Albion did well by finishing the match 0-0 but were beaten 1-0 in the replay at Goodison Park

four days later. Fast forward eleven years and the two are drawn out of the hat together to meet in the FA Cup again. On 2nd February 1924, at the Goldstone Ground, Albion won their first m

, against the Toffees, 5-2. This was also the South Coast club’s biggest win against the Merseysiders.

Fast forward fifty five years until they meet again. This time it is in the top flight, Division One. The match in December 1979 saw Everton win 2-0 at Goodison. They met for four years in Division

One, up until 9th April 1983.

Another gap in years, this time thirty four, until the clubs met again, this time in the Premier League. The first PL meeting was at the Amex Stadium in Brighton, on 15th October 2017, which

ended 1-1. They have met sixteen times in the PL including Toffees biggest win over Seagulls, 1-5, at the Amex in May 2023.

Their last meeting was again at Albion’s Falmer home, on 25th January 2025. A crowd of 31567 saw the Seagulls have 69% possession, but this did not help them. Everton were awarded a

penalty in the 42nd minute, which was taken advantage of by Illiaman Ndiaye winning spot kick. {See below for photo of match.}

Back to this coming Sunday it is hard to predict the result. Everton will obviously battle to the end to get a first ever PL win at their new stadium and Brighton will still be smarting over their

96th minute heartache of conceding to turn a home win into a draw. Looks like David Moyes and Fabian Hurzeler have a lot of head scratching to form their plans.

As an aside the following players have turned out for both Toffees and Seagulls:- Shane Duffy, Neal Maupay, Alan Biley, Mickey Thomas and Kevin McLeod.

13.08.25

With the PL season starting this weekend we thought we would look at WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS V MANCHESTER CITY. The match will be played at Moilneux on Sunday.

The clubs have met 132 times previously with Wolves winning 50, City 57 and 25 draws. They first met on 30th September 1899 at MCs old stadium Hyde Road. The match ended 1-1 which

coincidentally was the same result for the return match on 3rd February 1900, played at Molineux.

Wolves biggest win is 8-0, a Division One match played on 23rd December 1933. City’s biggest win is 6-0, a Division Two match played on 18th December 1909. The biggest aggregate scores are 10 goals. This was in two games both won by Wolves. They results are 7-3 in November 1952 and 6-4 in September 1959.

Bizarrely, in meeting each other over 126 years they have only met twice in the FA Cup. The first meeting in February 1911 was a Wolves win, 1-0, and the second was a Wolves win. 4-1, in January 1952, after an initial 2-2 draw.

The last meeting between the clubs was on 2nd May 2025. This was a Premier League match played at the Etihad. City won the match 1-0 with a goal by Kevin De Bruyne in the 35th minute. It was a match played in front of a 53282 gate. At the end of the season City finished 3rd and Wolves 16th.

Over the years a number of players have turned out for both clubs, including Matheus Nunes, Joleon Lescott, Mark Kennedy, Tommy Doyle, Keith Curle and Rayan Ait-Nouri. During this decade Wolves have only won once in the last ten meetings, Can Vitor Pereira get one over Pep Guardiola this time?
